Moving off-campus has been an adventure to say the least. Actually, a series of adventures. One of them is cooking for myself on a regular basis and although I am capable, I lack experience and therefore confidence. Making my first real meal, chicken in mushroom sauce, went exactly how you would expect. I destroyed the environment around me but at the end of the day, still ended up with something I was proud of.
Here is what you will need:
Two tablespoons of butter
Sliced mushrooms
One fourth of a chopped onion
Boneless/skinless chicken thighs
Lawry’s seasoned salt
10 oz can of mushroom soup
One fourth cup of milk
Splash of white wine
Step One: Melt the butter in a skillet on medium heat and add the onions and mushrooms once everything starts to heat up a little bit. Then stir and cook for about two minutes.
Step Two: Rinse the chicken and pat dry with a paper towel, but of courses be gentle on the thighs. Add the chicken to the skillet and sprinkle with the seasoned salt. Cook the chicken until it is lightly brown on both sides.
Step Three: Combine the milk, soup and wine and add the mixture to the skillet. When the soup starts to boil, turn the heat to the lowest setting and cover and cook for 20 minutes.
Step Four: Put it in your mouth. It’s pretty simple.
Again, it was my first time and although I made a fool of myself, at the end of the day this is something I can say I have done now and it does fuel my ego. I also know that the next time I make it, I will be ready and it will blow your mind.
