Democracy Matters
What They Do
Democracy Matters is a non-partisan, on-campus activist group that works to get large private money out of politics and people back in. Part of their mission is to strengthen democracy through grassroots organizing and support pro-democracy reforms such as the public financing of election campaigns. They also make voter registration a priority for students and work to inform the public about elections and local campaigns.
How to Get Involved
Democracy Matters hosts programs on campus to boost civic engagement, and they usually choose one or two action campaigns to focus on each semester. Previous campaigns have included gun control and voter registration turnout. They meet in SUB 209 every Thursday at 5 p.m. and are always looking for new members.

New Paltz Climate Action Club
What They Do
The New Paltz Climate Action Club is an activist organization that brings passionate students together who share a love for environmental justice. They strive to educate the community about climate change and push for renewable energy practices at New Paltz. Founded in the fall of 2017, they aim to not only educate students about the real issue that is climate change, but also to show students how to live sustainably and become activists in their own communities.
How to Get Involved
Come to their meetings in SUB 409 every Wednesday at 8 p.m. The club meetings focus on larger events that might be coming up, as well as going over different ways to impact climate change and spread the word to students.
