The Hawks had an impressive spring 2024 semester so far with SUNYAC champions, record-breaking athletes and coaches, awards and honors. In the remaining few weeks, we will continue to expect greatness from our Hawks and in the meantime, celebrate our wins.

Tennis

The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team successfully defended their SUNYAC Championship title from 2023. They defeated the SUNY Geneseo Knights with an overall score of 5-0, making this the ninth championship win for the Hawks. New Paltz will now advance to the NCAA tournament in two weeks.

Seven of our Hawks were selected for the All-Tournament team. Justine Stanejko/Loretta Donovan, Onalee Batcheller/Isabel van der Veen, and Tatiana Barnett/Nina Genzone will compete in doubles. Amirah Alston, Stanejko, Barnett and Donovan will also compete as singles.

Second-year Stanejko was named this year’s SUNYAC tournament’s most valuable player.

Women’s Lacrosse

New Paltz women’s lacrosse has been dominating this season with their 14-4 overall and record breaking performances.

As The Oracle reported earlier this semester, the Hawks set a new program record for the second fewest goals given up in program history in their game against Mount Saint Mary’s College.

In the March 2 game, multiple players set career records such as Morgan Atwater, Lexi Atwater, Kaitlyn Shaw and Mia Baldinger. Shaw later broke the all-time point record for the program.

Softball

The women’s softball team is also closing out the semester with an impressive 28-4 record on a 19 game win streak. They are deep into the SUNYACS sweeping their last four games.

This season, Lindsay Roman and Sydney Waldon were each named SUNYAC Pitchers of the Week twice. Kelsey O’Brien, Jaycee Filancia and Jackie Rometo all earned Player of the Week.

The team’s head coach, Krysti Neufeldt, also hit a career milestone with the team reaching her 100th win. She is the fastest of any New Paltz coach to hit this record.

Men’s Volleyball

New Paltz men’s volleyball concluded their season earlier in April with a final win against Russell Sage College 3-0 on April 6.

One player in particular, fourth-year Pat Wing, made headlines over and over again this season. Wing first earned the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Co-Player of the Week and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Week back in February.

Since then, Wing earned UVC Co-Player once again, followed by three major honors. For his third consecutive season, he was named First Team All-UVC, AVCA All-Region and First-Team AVCA All-American.

Baseball

The baseball team is currently competing in the SUNYAC Tournament. Their last win was against Mount Saint Mary College on May 1 winning 18-5.

Three Hawks were honored by SUNYAC this season: Tommy Kreider, Anthony Pericolosi and Fabian Apicella were all named Athlete of the Week.

Men’s Lacrosse

Men’s lacrosse wrapped up their season on April 27, losing to Cortland and ending their SUNYAC run.

Two stand-out athletes were Ryan Steinhart and Elias Elcock. Steinhart earned SUNYAC Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week earlier this month. Elcock was chosen for the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence.
