Kaite Wilson Named Athletic Communications Assistant

Kaite Wilson joined onboard as the new Assistant to the Senior Director of Athletic Communications, Marketing & Social Media in July. SUNY New Paltz was awarded the NCAA Ethnic Minorities and Women’s Internship Grant, which provides financial assistance to the Division II and III schools and conferences that are dedicated to enhancing minority and gender representation in entry-level athletics administrative positions. 

Thanks to this grant, Wilson was given the opportunity to have a career in sports at SUNY New Paltz. Especially being a woman in sports, she believes herself and the rest of the women being involved through this grant can encourage and represent all the women who seek a career in sports. “I am really excited to be given the opportunity to be a part of the Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship grant.” Wilson said in the university’s official announcement.

Wilson’s role in the Athletics Communication Department is to assist Senior Director, Monica D’Ippolito, with the SUNY New Paltz athletics website and social media. “I help Monica oversee the website and our social media to make sure it’s up to date,” Wilson told The Oracle. “Some examples are updating the sports statistics after a match and keeping up with the livestreams.” 

She is ready to show her love for sports and, with this title, she is eager to help create content that highlights the achievements of the student athlete’s. “ I am excited to adjust and see another side of sports, not just the athletic part of it but as well as seeing the marketing and content creating aspect of it. This grant has allowed me to be able to learn my role in athletics and working here taught me to open up to new learning experiences.” 

Prior to New Paltz, Wilson has had a history of being involved in athletics. Not only has she pursued a career in sports in college, she also was an athlete. A Hudson Valley native, she swam throughout her life and continued swimming collegiately at SUNY Brockport. 

“I have always been in this side of athletics, as I attended SUNY Brockport and majored in journalism, broadcasting, with concentration in media production and minor in graphic design,” said Wilson. “I also got offered a Graduate Assistantship, where I worked in the Sports Information Office in which I did the statistics and other public relations aspects for the job. It was an enjoyable and great learning experience that prepared me for my role here at SUNY New Paltz.” From the experience she gained at SUNY Brockport, she hopes to implement the skills and passion here at SUNY New Paltz. 

She can’t wait to not only collaborate with Hawks teams, but also with the coaches, students and staff that are involved in the athletic department. “Being able to bounce ideas off peers is a great way to continue to amplify our athletes’ accomplishments in unique and eye-catching ways,” said Wilson in the university’s announcement. “Connecting with the athletes and helping ideas become a reality is such a fun part of the job and I cannot wait to start creating.”
