Activism in New Paltz: Move Forward New York / Together Hudson Valley

Name

Move Forward New York

What They Do

Move Forward New York has brought together nearly 1,000 New Yorkers in an effort to “promote social justice, preserve civil rights and ensure environmental conservation.” With concerns over the agenda and decision-making style of the president, Move Forward New York was organized in the wake of the 2016 presidential election. Among the long list of concerns, members of Move Forward New York advocate for issues of human rights, the treatment of immigrants and Muslims, LGBTQ+ equality issues, issues of misogyny, possibilities of international and civil war, increases in terrorist actions, poor fiscal management at the federal level, and adverse changes in health care and education.

How to Get Involved

Move Forward New York hosts plenty of events in the New Paltz and Gardiner area. In the past they have been a part of the events “A Conversation with Congressman Delgado” and “Take Back Our Vote and Our Budget.” Unfortunately, as of now, the organization does not have any upcoming events in New Paltz.

Name

Together Hudson Valley

What They Do

Together Hudson Valley is a volunteer group of Hudson Valley citizens who work to preserve the landscape and natural beauty of the Hudson Valley. The group advocates for environmental issues like fracking, unsustainable development, drains on infrastructure, excessive traffic and pollution to the air and water. Together Hudson Valley’s overall mission is “to promote candidates committed to sustainable development in the Hudson Valley.” While they actively lift up candidates who advocate for land conservation, Together Hudson Valley also protests special interest groups and corporations that profit from the degradation of natural resources.

How to Get Involved

Unlike most activism groups spotlighted in this column, Together Hudson Valley does not hold interest meetings. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get involved! If you go to their website at togetherhudsonvalley.org and scroll all the way to the bottom, you can sign up for their newsletters to stay connected and informed.
