Ryan Scully, fifth-year attackman on the SUNY New Paltz men’s lacrosse team has been named the most recent Athlete of the Week for the SUNY New Paltz Athletics Department.

In the Hawks’ first SUNYAC win against Plattsburgh, the Bay Shore native was one of the scoring leaders on the day with two goals. During the game, he also reached 100 career points, achieving this milestone with a shortened 2020 season and not playing in the 2022 season.

Starting every game for the Hawks this year, Scully is a crucial part of the Hawks’ offense. Scully scored his season-high, four goals, in the teams’ victory against Manhattanville and dished out five assists against Lasell, a new career-high. Scully has scored at least one goal or more in 11 out of the 13 games the team has played so far this season and has earned at least one point in every matchup.

Last season, Scully was third all-time in goals in a single season, netting 27 total. In both the 2021 and 2023 seasons, Scully excelled on the field and in the classroom, earning himself a spot on the SUNYAC Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.

Scully has made New Paltz men’s lacrosse history in more ways than one. He scored the first goal in the history of the program, as the men’s lacrosse team formed at SUNY New Paltz Scully’s freshman year. He was also the first men’s lacrosse player to be named a SUNYAC Men’s Lacrosse Athlete of the Week in 2020.

Scully is also accompanied on the team by his younger brother, Ethan Scully, a third-year midfield/faceoff player.
