Last week, a racially-offensive sticker making references to Jim Crow laws was placed above a water fountain in the Humanities Building. Later in the week, more inflammatory, racist language was found in Lefevre Hall. There are ongoing investigations regarding the offenses and the campus police are looking to apprehend those responsible. We at The New Paltz Oracle are disgusted and shocked that such an act of hate happened on our campus. While nothing has been set in stone, we at The New Paltz Oracle are happy with Student Association (SA) Production’s attempt to have a more student-represented spring concert. The politics that strangled the process last year can now be avoided by simply bringing an act that students actually want to see. With a brand new and diverse board this year, SA Productions is currently putting together a festival for the spring with music, food and games. Avoid Confusion At The Polls

The recent realization that Toni Hokanson’s name will be present on the ballot on Nov. 8 as an option for New Paltz’s town supervisor, despite her public withdrawal from the race, has us at The New Paltz Oracle troubled. Whether you are of the opinion that the withdrawl announcement on the cover of The New Paltz Times was an attempt for publicity or not, the fact remains that Hokanson’s name appearing on the ballot after rescinding her candidcay, so to speak, is proof of flawed election laws that need to be reviewed and revised.
