What’s your instrument of choice and why?
Guitar. It’s what I’m concentrating on for school. I started off on bass but I had more fun with guitar. I felt there was more I could do with it.
What are you involved with musically?
I have a band from back home called Dave and Marissa. I do some solo stuff. I’m in Male Call since last semester.
Who are your biggest influences?
Sigur Ros. The Avett Brothers.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Andrew Bird. A lot more jazz like Charles Mingus.
What’s your plan for the future?
Become a cruise line musician. It’s just a safe thing to do. I want to somehow be involved in studio music. I have an associate’s degree in recording, too.

Any advice for aspiring musicians?
Draw inspiration from everything in your life. Don’t ever try to sound a certain way.
