On May 2, you will have the opportunity to vote for two new members of the New Paltz Village Board of Trustees. William “Bill” Murray, one of the five candidates, is a member of the New Paltz Fire Department.
Whether you live on campus or in a rental in New Paltz, Bill serves students on numerous fire calls every year. Bill is an interior firefighter, meaning he is state certified to enter buildings to rescue trapped persons and extinguish fires. He is part of an elite group of New Paltz firefighters who do this work.
Bill was inspired to sign up as a fireman as the ranks of volunteers everywhere have steadily decreased over the years. This is an example of the level of commitment Bill has to serve the well-being of our community where most needed. For his service over the last year he was recently presented with the department’s 2016 “Distinguished Service Award.”
Also, “Recruit New York,” New Paltz’s yearly firefighter recruitment event, will be held at the firehouse at 25 Plattekill (next to Village Hall) on this Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attend this event and find out more how you yourself can help out the New Paltz community! There will be several volunteer organizations present this year. Be inspired by Bill’s example to serve the community where needed.
There is more information about Bill at Facebook.com/MurrayforTrustee. And remember to vote for Bill this Tuesday, May 2 at 25 Plattekill Ave. from 12 to 9 p.m.
