The New Paltz Men’s Rugby Football Club (NPRFC) traveled to Oneonta on Sunday, April 23 for a tournament and came away with two victories in three matchups.
In the first game of the afternoon, New Paltz fell to SUNY Oneonta in traditional 15-man rugby by a score of 31-26, but found redemption as they defeated Oneonta later in the afternoon in the sevens by a score of 42-5.
The Hawks also defeated Hartwick College in the tournament in 15s by a score of 19-15.
Second-year first receiver Drew Zarella scored a try off a one-handed jump catch in the victory over Oneonta in sevens, as well as wing first-year Yousef Taormina who chipped in a try during the same match.
New Paltz will next host Bard College at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 30 at the field behind Esopus Hall.
