Many families across America have pets that they take care of. Although a common responsibility, with recent fluctuations with the economy and the state of the world, it’s sometimes difficult to pay for things our furry friends need.
There are many charities and fundraisers geared towards helping animals, but not many places help the average person with providing their pets with enriching food when times are hard. Paws of Distinction, a pet shop located in Water Street Market in New Paltz is changing the times with their kindness.
Upon one of my first visits to the town of New Paltz, I noticed a sign above a table of bagged and canned pet food located outside of the shop stating, “If you have lost your job and are unable to feed your pet, please take one.” I assumed this was a coincidence and the shop was only providing for a short period of time.
Over the months and now years of walking by the shop, the offering has remained stagnant and families are overwhelmed with the act of kindness. I’ve witnessed this help many pet owners with feeding their furry friends, and the support from the community for one another is refreshing to see.
I think many businesses can take note of the generosity that Paws of Distinction has and incorporate it into their own shops.
