A Review of…Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?

The Cranberries are the quintessential 90s band – amid the grungy Seattle sound of Nirvana or the East Coast rap scene – Dolores O’Riordan’s keening, Limerick-laced vocals are instantly recognizable (Derry Girls, anyone?). Despite its 1993 release, “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?” has continued to grace FM radio and every twenty-something girl’s playlist for over 30 years.

Although this review takes us back in time, I’ve found that this album has entered my life at all the right stages. It’s laced with hints of nostalgia, joy, yearning and the ever-confusing state of human emotion.

While “Dreams” and “Linger” seem to play everywhere, my personal favorites off the album are “Wanted” and “I Still Do,” two lesser-known but equally beautiful tracks. “Wanted” is just over two minutes, but its instant, quick riffs and O’Riordan’s vocals will leave you hitting play over and over.

If you really want to delve into the band’s discography, the album’s deluxe edition features another one of my absolute favorite tracks, “Liar,” sucking you into lyricism as quickly as “Wanted.”

In its timeless fashion, the album continues to capture each fleeting moment of human emotion and has cemented its place as a staple of musical genius.
