Thomas Weikel

What’s your instrument of choice and why?

I am a drummer. I always have been. I got a toy drum set for my second birthday and a real one on my third.

Who are your biggest influences?

My biggest influences are a little untraditional. I love and was greatly influenced by Dave Grohl, Ginger Baker, Mitch Mitchell, John Bonham and Keith Moon. Also, Max Roach and Gene Krupa. But my first and most influential style was Balkan folk dance music giving me a unique perspective and style.

What are you involved with musically?

I’m involved in two bands Defunct Radio Circus and Clinton Road. Clinton Road just finished their first album and I play almost weekly shows with the DRC.

Who have you been listening to lately?

Tame Impala. Japandriods. Simon Miller Quintet. Mose Allison. Jack White’s Blunderbuss.

What’s your plan for the future?

My future plans are not really that definitive. One thing I know for sure I will be playing music and hopefully earning money for it.

Any advice for aspiring musicians?

Practice a lot and to be confident even if your nervous, because a crowd can sense nervousness like dogs.
