The New Paltz Women’s Rugby Football Club (NPWRFC) suffered a tough loss over the weekend to the Long Island Rugby Football Club (LIRFC). On Saturday, April 29 NPWRFC lost 44-15 despite a valiant effort in front of the home crowd.
The match was originally planned as part of Ruck Fest, an annual tournament hosted by NPWRFC, however multiple teams dropped out leaving the Hawks with one opponent to face. Playing in a traditional XV’s match, the Hawks managed three tries while allowing eight tries to their opponent.
“It was a great game that brought the New Paltz women’s rugby team and the community together to raise awareness and money for Family of New Paltz,” Hawks third-year hooker Kyle Dayton said.
After the game prizes were raffled off from local businesses, including Karma Road, Ralph’s and the Gilded Otter.
NPWRFC will compete in their final game of the season as part of rugby alumni weekend on Saturday, May 6 at the fields behind Esopus Hall.
