Men’s Basketball Ends Winter Season

A season of new beginnings for the New Paltz Men’s Basketball team ended on Feb. 21, after a 73-62 loss in the quarterfinal match to SUNYAC rival SUNY Oswego. The Hawks earned a playoff berth as the No. 8 seed with a 9-17 record after a 65-68 loss to SUNY Plattsburgh on Feb. 14. Parallel Worlds in Parker

New Paltz’s newest play, “Eugenia,” will be taking the American stage for the first time. The New Paltz Theater Arts Department’s production of play, directed by Anita Gonzalez and composed by Stephen Kitsakos, will run from Thursday, March 1 to Sunday, March 11 in Parker Theatre. “Eugenia,” written by New Zealand playwright Lorae Parry, was first introduced to Gonzalez four years ago. “A New Zealand international exchange student [introduced it] in my ‘Race, Gender and Performance’ class when we were doing a unit on gay, lesbian and transgender identities on stage,” Gonzalez said. “Since then, both Stephen Kitsakos and I have taught the play in our classes.” The play weaves parallel stories […]

Women’s Basketball Falls in Semifinals

Despite a slow start to this season, the New Paltz Women’s Basketball team made strides to catch up and regain their footing in game-play leading up to their 2012 State University of New York Athletic Conference match up against SUNY Oneonta on Friday. Though the first four games of the season left the team with a string of November losses, the fifth game against Stevens Institute of Technology provided the Lady Hawks with a 62-50 win. The Stevens win provided the team with a confidence boost after the early season’s struggle, allowing them to pick up steam for the remainder of the season.
