Description: Opened in 1994, Samuel’s Sweet Shop is a “boutique candy and coffee shop in the heart of bucolic Dutchess County,” according to their website. Personally, I’m attracted to this business based on their usage of alliteration in this one sentence, but the mention of coffee and sweets definitely doesn’t hurt. They also serve tea, baked goods, sandwiches and more!
Why Go: It’s co-owned by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Paul Rudd. Instead of getting a “Crap Bag,” you could just go get a few bags of candy to relax in your Banana Hammock with. (If you don’t understand this reference, then maybe watch Season 10, Episode 14 of “Friends” on your way there and have a friend drive you!) Also, my friend described Rhinebeck as being “a town from a Hallmark movie,” so if you want to live out your classic holiday fantasy, here’s your chance!
How to Get There: You could drive from campus, the fastest route being 37 minutes, if you merge onto I-87 N towards Ulster. You’ll take exit 19 towards NY-28 W and take some other turns until you reach E Market St. Sometimes, Google Maps is like your own personal LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) wire, for all my “Grey’s Anatomy” fans out there.
