Deep End: The Sexy Pitches

The New Paltz Sexy Pitches, our school’s only all-female a cappella club, is riding the high of being back and better than ever. After not being able to rehearse or perform live and in person for over a year, the Pitches inducted ten new members this semester and got to work making musical magic. The Pitches’ song repertoire includes a wide range of songs, including “Bust Your Windows” by Jasmine Sullivan, “Vienna” by Billy Joel and “Rhiannon” by Fleetwood Mac.

The reviews are in and they point towards excellence! Fourth-year communication disorders major and Pitches President Caitlyn Schmidt told the Oracle, “My experience with the Pitches has been incredible to say the least. I auditioned my first semester freshman year, was accepted and have never looked back … An all-female group is such an awesome environment to be involved in. Rehearsals are always a safe environment in which we are always building each other up.”

Alongside New Paltz’s co-ed singing club, Absolut A Cappella, the Pitches performed “A Halloween Concert,” their first live performance since the pandemic began. Before the show even commenced, the Pitches scrambled to find additional seating to accommodate the hoards of music fans that arrived at the Student Union Building (SUB) to support both clubs. Students, family, friends and community members alike arrived to celebrate the return of New Paltz a cappella with a frighteningly good Halloween show.

On Wednesday, Dec. 1, the two groups are hosting a “Winter Wonderland” show in SUB 100N at 7:30 p.m., once again performing with Absolut A Cappella for the final time this semester. Second-year environmental studies and political science major Quincy Jackson, who has been a Pitch since spring 2021, says, “I’m so excited to be performing with The Sexy Pitches again! It’s been such an amazing experience being able to practice in person and perform in front of a live audience … I’m so thankful to have been part of such a wonderful group.”
