This week has been a non-stop train of thought about the future. Moving on from people in my past, moving past my anxiety to do things I have always dreamed of, moving out of this town when I graduate and moving towards the future.
We’ve all experienced these eras of change and transition periods in our lives. Going away to college, relationships, breakups, moving, first jobs and countless other new experiences that take time to get used to. However, this time feels different. College is the last time I will live within walking distance from my friends. Once May comes, they will be an hour or more drive away. I will be in a new house, get a new job, be done with school, have none of my friends nearby and have to rebuild my life from what seems like scratch. So many things that made up my identity feel as though they will cease to exist when I leave.
A constant in my life has always been music as a way of defining these eras in my life. I dug through my oldest playlists, some new ones and some that have been on repeat for years. Knowing I have already gone through massive changes while listening to these songs and survived makes me a little less scared of my life turning upside down.
So in the words of The Kinks, “Life goes on. It happens every day. So appreciate what you got before it’s taken away. Life will hit you when you’re unprepared, so be grateful and take all that you can while you’re there.”
